This week I turn 24.
But I am not sure how this happened. In my mind I was supposed to be 22 forever. Now 24 is approaching and I don’t know how to feel. I’m happy but confused, content but insecure.
And why do I keep finding this one grey hair in my bangs?!
While I am so thankful for all these years I’ve had, I can’t help but have the same insecure feelings as others in my generation. When I was 16, I thought by 24 I’d have a career, I’d be a grown up, and I’d be on the way to getting married by 26. Yet, while people older than me often say, “You are still so young,” at the same time, those younger are thinking, “Yeah, she is pretty old”.
Shouldn’t I have a career? Shouldn’t I be settled down somewhere? Shouldn’t I feel mature? Shouldn’t I (at least) be able to keep my apartment clean for more than one day?
I don’t think I am alone with these questions and I am going to answer, “No, I shouldn’t be anywhere but here”.
Moreover, in response to entering my mid-twenties, I’ve decide to make 24 the best and most adventurous year yet.
So here is my “25 before 25” list. A bucket list to celebrate youth, and kick the conventional thoughts of growing up in the butt.
3. Do yoga in India.
Backpack through Myanmar(Burma).
5. Eat a deep fried scorpion.
7. Travel through northern Vietnam by motorcycle.
8. Get bumped to first-class.
10. Get sponsored for Curiosity Travels.
12. See a tiger in the wild. Fail.
Go back to Thailand, and eat all my favorite dishes (there’s about 7+).
Partake in Holi festival (festival of colors).
18. Be in a bollywood movie. Almost?
19. Roam the ruins of Angkor Wat.
20. Visit a long neck tribe.
21. Make Curiosity Travels a successful travel blog with a loyal readership.
23. Do the “Gibbon Experience” (sleep in tree-houses in the Northern Laos jungle).
25. Inspire someone to travel the world.
I hope you will follow along with Curiosity Travels for the ups, and the downs, as I try and complete all 25 items by July 15th, 2013. Luckily, I’ll have my boyfriend with me as I complete most of them. Getting him to eat a scorpion (or do yoga in India) are bonus bucket list additions. The first of which I am sure he will vomit, and the latter would just be hilarious.
Here’s to a good year!
Do you have a bucket list? What’s on it?
