In between the massages, street food, Sangsom whiskey and motorbike crashes in Northern Thailand, I had the pleasure of meeting two spontaneous and very likable cousins. Some of the only Southern Californians (and Americans in general) I had come across for a while, we found ourselves chatting about the guilty pleasures we missed from home as we zipped around Chiang Mai in the back of a Songthaew taxi. A Taco Bell crunchwrap supreme or some In-N-Out animal-style fries really sounded divine at the time, regardless of how amazing the Thai food was.
After parting ways to head in different directions, I came across a blog post that one of the cousins, Katie, wrote. It was full of memes inspired by her personal travels and I loved it. I soon began conjuring some ideas of my own. So without further ado, here is the Abroads in Asia and Curiosity Travels collaborative effort to capture the ridiculous quirks of backpacking Southeast Asia through memes.
Memes with corresponding thin white text come from the mind of Katie James. She is currently teaching in Thailand and you can read about her hilarious and always entertaining adventures here.
