My six days in the Arctic really couldn’t have been any more perfect. I stayed in a beautiful house all to myself, I went on once and a lifetime adventures and I made a local friend who toured me around all week. As I drove myself back to the airport in my SADcars rental on my last afternoon, I already felt nostalgic for the days prior. In a country I originally knew very little about, I had one of the best trips of my life.
Don’t you love when travel works out like that?
Many of these photos were taken while I was exploring Reykjavik and parts of the South coast in my SADcars rental. Not only did they provide me with a nice car with good quality snow tires, but they also offer one of the least expensive options for cars in Iceland. This is crucial, since a lot of money will be spent on gas. Remember, Iceland is not cheap!
I had the rental for three days. One day I took the car a few hours south to Vik (where the black beach was) and on another I just drove it around parts of Reykjavik. On the third I drove myself to the Blue Lagoon before dropping the car off at the airport.
Renting a car and driving around was my favorite way to see some of the country in the short amount of time I was there. Still, there’s much more to the story than the photos above. My next post will delve into it.
Also, if I still haven’t convinced you to visit Iceland in winter from these photos, here’s another article I’ve written detailing everything you need to know about visiting Iceland in winter.
