Briefly describing a visit to Cuba is nearly impossible. One of the most captivating places I have ever visited, it can’t be summed up in a few sentences. It’s confusing, intriguing and fascinating. And for many privileged visitors from Western countries, it can also be very frustrating.
Stepping into Cuba is stepping into another world. This is not just because of the classic cars and colonial buildings. One steps into a completely different system, a system which many of us can’t even comprehend. A place where convenience isn’t a way of daily life and disposable income, for many, doesn’t even exist.
In an effort to provide a decent glimpse of what we saw, here are nearly 40 photos from Havana, Trinidad and Cienfuegos (in order). Some are pretty, some are not, some give you that typical ‘postcard image’ of Cuba and some may challenge what you thought this country looked like. Most importantly, some show the people– a part of the country which may have made the most lasting impression.
(Oh yeah, and one shows Enrique Iglesias walking down the street.)
Hope you enjoy this small slice of what our week in Cuba looked like.
